1937 — The story of Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co., Inc. began when Bob and Roy Cleveland started a landscaping contracting company. Over the next few years, the company worked on a variety of high profile jobs. In search of new opportunities, Bob and Roy took over the Caterpillar dealership in Central Pennsylvania.

1948 — On January 1, Cleveland Brothers was formed.

1961 — Roy’s son, Jay Cleveland, began working at his father’s company.

1963 — Bill Kirchhoff married Jean Cleveland, Roy’s Daughter, and joined the company.

1965 — Bob moved to New York to pursue other dealer opportunities, while Roy remained at Cleveland Brothers. Bob and Roy’s father, C.W. “Dad” Cleveland, was hired as purchasing agent for Cleveland Brothers.

1988 — Jay Cleveland Jr. joined the company and serves as President/Chief Executive Officer.

1994 — Tom Kirchhoff joined as Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer and remained until his passing in March 2015.

2005 — On October 10, Beckwith Machinery Company was acquired. Cleveland Brothers also acquired One Call Rentals, a network of Cat Rental Stores across western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia. One Call Rentals carries Cat and other leading manufacturers site equipment (air compressors, aerial lifts). This acquisition increased the Cleveland Brothers family of companies and territory to cover 59 counties across Pennsylvania, stretching from the northeast corner throughout central and western PA. In addition, Cleveland Brothers also serves 17 counties in northern West Virginia and 2 counties in western Maryland.

From its inception, Cleveland Brothers has operated under the principle that the company thrives when customers succeed. This philosophy continues today—placing customers first. With each new generation, Cleveland Brothers remains a family-oriented business.
